“OFFICIAL – CHINA RECOGNISES CRIMEAN REFERENDUM”
This is the clear meaning of the statement TASS reports that a senior official of the Chinese Foreign Ministry has made.
The fact that China recognises the Crimean referendum means that de facto (and surely before long de jure) China has recognised Crimea’s unification with Russia. Note also that the official has expressed support for Russia’s Ukrainian policy.
This is the clearest statement from an official source (as opposed to the news media) of China’s position viz the Ukrainian crisis that China has made to date. Because it is made by an official rather than a minister it has gone almost unnoticed. However that is how China works: statements of this sort are first floated in the media, then made formally but at a relatively low level, following which they become uncontested policy. Suffice to say that it is inconceivable that the official in question would have spoken out in this way without clearance from the very highest levels of the Chinese government and the fact that in his conversation to TASS he actually quotes comments made by Xi Jinping in telephone conversations with Putin puts that question beyond doubt.
I have always felt that the Chinese dimension in influencing Russia’s Ukrainian policy is consistently underestimated. I am sure that every single step Moscow has taken since the start of the Ukrainian crisis has been discussed and coordinated with Beijing at the highest possible level. We should not make the mistake of thinking that the only conversations between Putin and Xi Jinping are those that are officially or publicly reported. The Chinese do not want to be seen taking an active or public role in the Ukrainian crisis – which formally speaking has nothing to do with them – but given the importance of China’s support for Russia and the importance of Russia to China, it is a certainty that the two sides have been working closely together with each other and that they are discussing every aspect of this crisis all the time. Knowledge that he has China’s support is one reason for Putin’s confidence in his dealings with the US and the Europeans.
The need to coordinate with Beijing does however place certain constraints on Moscow’s actions. Again I am sure that one reason amongst many why Russia has been wary of intervening actively in the Donbas or of formally recognising the various votes there is because it knows that doing so too obviously or too hastily would not be welcome in Beijing.
China is traditionally very wary of independence declarations (a policy restated with specific reference to the Ukraine by the official quoted by TASS) not because it is worried about Xinjiang or Tibet (where the situation is fully under control) as the west alleges but because it does not want to create a precedent for Taiwan.
Again I do not think many people especially in the west but also in Russia understand what a sensitive issue for China Taiwan is. Suffice to say that a key reason for the Sino Soviet split of the 1960s was precisely Mao Zedong’s anger at what he correctly saw as a lack of support from Moscow over Taiwan.
That does not mean Novorossian independence will not happen or that either the Russians or indeed the Chinese are reconciled to the results of the Maidan coup or to the survival of the present regime in Kiev. Both countries perceive the sort of staged US backed “revolutions” that the Maidan coup was, as a direct challenge and threat to themselves. Both countries are almost certainly agreed that the results of the coup in a key Eurasian state must be reversed. Note how the official, in the clearest possible sign that he is speaking on behalf of the Chinese government, quotes a previously unreported but very revealing remark Xi Jinping said to Putin in one of their telephone conversations, that “there is no smoke without fire”. No guesses who or what that refers to.
However the joint policy of reversing the effects of the Maidan coup is going to be done incrementally, step by step, for many reasons of which China’s concerns about Taiwan are just one.
Anyway, to those who think there is some division between Beijing and Moscow both over the Crimean issue and over the Ukrainian crisis generally, this statement from an official of the Chinese government should finally and once and for all put that question to rest: there is none.
‘”there is no smoke without fire”. No guesses who or what that refers to.’
Well, I am guessing. I’m not exactly sure what it means. Please enlighten.
China is careful about independence referendums because of Hong Kong, Taiwan and Tibet. They know the US has been working for 60 years on these issues with CIA and State Department machinations.
But Crimea fits a land reunification that fits their claims in the East China and South China Sea islands.
And they will have a big economic role in Crimea’s development.
So, the issue is economics.
Donbass will eventually become Russian. No need for China to get into that inevitability. And when things clearly are defined there, China will participate in the redevelopment of the East region.
The US, Canada and Ukraine don’t like the anti-nazi resolution in the UN. You can’t make this stuff up. I am disgusted, but not surprised. The U.S. government is a travesty.
UNITED NATIONS, November 22. /TASS/. The third committee of the UN General Assembly on Friday adopted a resolution urging countries to adopt more efficient measures to struggle against the heroization of Nazism and other forms of racial discrimination, xenophobia and intolerance.
A total of 115 out of 193 UN member-states voted in favor of the document, initiated by Russia. Three countries opposed the document – Canada, the United States and Ukraine. Another 55 delegations, including from the European Union countries, abstained.
The resolution expresses concerns over the spread across the world of various extremist political parties, movements and groups, including neo-Nazis as well as racist extremist movements and ideologies.
The text also warns against glorification of the Nazi movement and former members of the Waffen-SS organization and erecting monuments and memorials to them.
Therefore the document calls on states to take more efficient measures in line with international standards in the human rights sphere to fight these developments and extremist movements posing a real threat to democratic values.
The resolution unequivocally condemns any denial of the Holocaust and calls for ensuring the ratification and implementation of the International Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Racial Discrimination (ICERD).
Reading this from Bangkok today, took off yesterday from Auckland and got a good look at Xi Jinping’s official jumbo jet on the tarmac. Xi was definitely a guest of honour in NZ. In Bangkok, the Chinese presence of businessmen in the hotel doing deals is much greater than my last trip here 5 years ago. The Chinese economic growth rate might be cooling, but diplomatically China is rising.
“Consider that in 1990 the combined GDP of the G7 countries stood at US$14.4 trillion. At the same time the “emerging 7” (China, India, Russia, Brazil, Indonesia, Mexico and South Korea) sported a GDP of US$2.3 trillion. Last year the figures stood at US$32 trillion for the G7 and US$35 trillion for the “emerging 7”

Thaksin Shinawatra and his sister Yingluck have been responsible for much US backed mischief here in Thailand, backed by the same forces that gave Ukraine Yats & Porky — and even worse were responsible for Pol Pot in Cambodia, where Thaksin lurks like a poisonous spider. Meanwhile China is associated with peace, prosperity, and economic cooperation.
The atrocities of the cultural revolution were a half century ago. China has inherited the soft power that the US abdicated when they decided to rule as global hegemon.
Dear Saker,
thank you dearly for posting this, a gamechanger. Also itar tass has announced today that China and Russia have formed a unified military command. Ominous signal that the fascists are about to attack massively are given by an excerpt from http://www.niqnaq.wordpress:
Ukraine passed three light sensors, designed to detect and suppress manometric calculations. And this is only the first batch of such equipment, told reporters the official representative of the Pentagon Steve Warren. All of Pindostan (USA) plan to supply to Ukraine, 20 such systems. Radar systems track mines on the approach, to quickly determine the point from which the enemy will fire, and allow you to take appropriate response measures. As expected, in mid-December, Pindosi instructors will teach the Ukrainian military to operate this equipment. At the same time, the Ukrainian side will decide when, where and how to use the Pindosi technology. For example, these radars can be used independently or as part of an artillery battery. In this case, they will help clean return fire. This delivery is part of the aid package to $118m for the current year, which Pindostan pledged to give the armed forces of Ukraine, according to TASS. Recall that about the future supply of Pindosi weapons of Ukraine reported yesterday Deputy assistant to the President for national security Tony Blinken. According to him, such a strengthening of the Ukrainian army will be a message to Russia. In Moscow such a step is called a direct violation of the Geneva agreements.
Several commentarists have concluded that G20 was nothing but a bullying PR operation as a preliminary to the imminent attack of the fascists. The undelivery of the Mistral as another sign, the claim by the infamous Latvian PM that Russia is a terrorist state, another. What is becoming clearer by the day, is that they are coming for an attack that will force Russia to intervene without much diplomacy any longer. Thus, Lavrov’s condemnation today at the UN, speaking loud and clear about the ethnic cleansing and the coverup of MH17.
We stand with Russia and Novorossyia.
I’ve always said that China is behind Russia as China knows that once Russia falls then US, NATO and Japan will focus 100% to destroy China.
“OFFICIAL – CHINA RECOGNISES CRIMEAN REFERENDUM”
Yes, China and Russia are together on many issues, however your TITLE seems to be slightly overstated. Wouldn’t be better to say SUPPORTIVE.
“No smoke without fire”, says the wisdom that the signal comes with the source that supports its meaning, in other words, words come with (China’s) actions. Be it.
Very much appears that Europe is to go through self-delivery, but with Russia and China acting as midwives.Could it be otherwise than paradox playing its self in an historical setting?!!
I’ve been Googling on Baidu with the terms 外交部 (MFA) 克里米亚 (Crimea) and 桂从友 (Gui Congyou) and haven’t found anything yet.
The only thing I’ve found from the Chinese side is this: 中國外交部歐亞司代理司長桂從友在同俄羅斯記者舉行會晤時表示,中國不排除克里米亞參與絲綢之路經濟帶的建設項目。
(Chinese MFA deputy director-general Gui from said during a meeting with Russian reporters, that China does not exclude Crimea from the construction projects of the Silk Road Economic Zone.)

Happy Birthday Saker!
Alexander thanks for this important tidbit.
China and Russia give the world firm anchors during this time of transition. Look how China just picked up Australia and NZ making the awful TPP redundant.
Few will realise this but Australia is the lock on Asia, who ever controls my country dominates the Pacific and Indian Oceans.
Once Australia is independent Asia is set free. I think this China knows, but America has forgotten.
Not long now and something will give way and with it US imperialism – I live in hope.
Putin and Xi have brains, the West sadly lack synaptic power.
Good to see China lending support to Russia on Ukraine. I admit my ambivalence toward the Chinese government, and regret Russia must turn to them for primary friendship and support. But the world is what it is and I hope this alliance will prove daunting to the Western alliance.
On another topic, RT censored a comment I made last night. I don’t know if it was ever posted or not, but when I finished writing it the comment box the box turned red and a message flashed notifying me that my comment must be approved by the moderator. I made other comments last night under other articles and this did not happen.
I happened to reply to a comment from someone who claimed complaints about the Bilderbergs and others working toward global governance are overwrought. I presented information about UN Agenda 21, Julian Huxley, and his founding UNESCO document, which describes the plan for world government and related elite planning. My point was that their plans for global government are documented in writing – in official UN documents – for anyone to read. Hysterical claims by liberals that such ideas are paranoid or overwrought are misinformed.
Anyway, RT is set somehow to censor out such comments. I guess this is not surprising, but is disappointing nonetheless.
(For anyone who has not read it, Huxley’s UNESCO document, UNESCO Its Purpose and Its Philosophy, is important to look over: http://unesdoc.unesco.org/images/0006/000681/068197eo.pdf
As is UN Agenda 21, which is in book form. It details their plans for the future of humanity, including the one world religion (GAIA) and their other plans for total control over humanity.)

Some members of parliament of the Dutch government have asked the ministery to make the secret document signed between the participants of the Joint Investigation Team, public. The Ministery has refused to do so because it wants to keep good relations with the other states participating in the investigation of MH17.
Normally such documents must be made public on demand (called the Wob law).
Thanks for sharing this very important development.
Yes, That’s how the Chinese work. Silent in the background. Don’t have much to say, only when it is appropriate…but taking note of how the Empire of Chaos kick in the doors of their friends.
Imho, in the build-up to a final showdown, we are observing the messages being sent from each side. Interesting the timing from the Chinese.

Over at GlobalResearch (21 November 2014) we have this grim assessment by Prof. James Petras:
All-Out War in Ukraine: NATO’s ‘Final Offensive’
There are clear signs that a major war is about to break out in Ukraine: A war actively promoted by the NATO regimes and supported by their allies and clients in Asia (Japan) and the Middle East (Saudi Arabia). The war over Ukraine will essentially run along the lines of a full-scale military offensive against the southeast Donbas region, targeting the breakaway ethnic Ukraine- Russian Peoples Republic of Donetsk and Lugansk, with the intention of deposing the democratically elected government, disarming the popular militias, killing the guerrilla resistance partisans and their mass base, dismantling the popular representative organizations and engaging in ethnic cleansing of millions of bilingual Ukraino-Russian citizens. NATO’s forthcoming military seizure of the Donbas region is a continuation and extension of its original violent putsch in Kiev, which overthrew an elected Ukrainian government in February 2014.
[.]
NATO has decided on an ‘all-or-nothing campaign’: to seize all of Ukraine or, failing that, destroy the restive southeast, obliterate its population and productive capacity and engage in an all-out economic (and possibly shooting) war with Russia. Chancellor Angela Merkel is on board with this plan despite the complaints of German industrialists over their huge loss of export sales to Russia. President Hollande of France has signed on dismissing the complaints of trade unionists over the loss of thousands French jobs in the shipyards. Prime Minister David Cameron is eager for an economic war against Moscow, suggesting the bankers of the City of London find new channels to launder the illicit earnings of Russian oligarchs.

At the UN – of all venues-
… connecting dots – this is the new normal:
Ukraine, US, Canada do not back Russia-initiated UN resolution on heroization of Nazism

Got it!
Does this not give some weight to Prof. James’ article?
Just imagine 75 years on, Nazism is now embraced by the same countries who fought it? Oh, never mind, apparently the decision has been made.
This UN resolution, initiated by Russia, follows Mr. Putin’s red-line that Russia cannot stand by and allow the massacre of a whole people in the Donbas region.
. . . . .
I have previously posted here this statement:
“Ukraine is where NATO and the U.S. dollar went to die”
Sooner, rather than later.
Wow!
This indicates a huge endorsement of Russia by China!
The Tiger is beginning to growl!
Saker you are quite correct that China will tread very cautiously and not want to create a precedent that can be applied to Taiwan. Besides that China has a long standing policy to not interfere in the internal affairs of other nations. This comes down to the definition of other nations. Taiwan was a province of China going back more than a thousand years. The current government in Beijing as well as the Kuomingtang party in Taiwan recognize that fact.
In any case, good catch on finding this statement — it is a sign that China is supporting Russia.
@ Saker,
Many, many things [especially nuances] get lost in translation. Even more so, in ‘interpreting’ cultural differences as seen through the eyes of foreigners [that’s us].
Back in high school, my friend’s dad [chief of police] once said about a murder case in Chinatown, “It’s easier to get contact with God than to get a foot in the door of Chinese restaurant.”
I have no reason to believe he was wrong.
OOhh…that mean they recognise the “annexation” of Crimea, too.
Bet the US won’t put sanctions on them though — Walmart would have to shut its doors if China stopped supplying them.
The Bear and the Dragon holding hands. Can anyone say superpower?
Meanwhile, Australian Foreign Minister Julie Bishop has berated Obama for a G20 speech criticising Australia’s efforts on climate change.
http://www.theaustralian.com.au/business/in-depth/obama-ignored-embassys-warnings-on-climate-change-speech/story-fnpebfcn-1227131290194
The speech is ammunition for the Opposition to use for months, and is a warning to Abbott for getting too friendly with China, which Abbott just did a big free trade deal with. USA just did a climate change deal with China, but that is different – (a) they don’t intend to keep to it (b) it will damage China. The trade deal fails on both counts.
Abbott has two tin ears, so probably figures US and China are friends now, so it’s ok too deal with them. The only export that needs a free trade agreement, that has big tariffs on it,is coal, which China just promised USA they’ll use less of. He also never noticed US has dropped the “Russia dunnit” line on MH17 ages ago.
Abbott was also very pushy to send aircraft and ground troops to the ISIS games, but then sent the bare minimum. This reluctance doesn’t augur well for a US base in Australia – there is a plan for 2500 to be stationed here by 2017 but they’re not likely to be allowed more than that.
So Obama gives the Opposition ammunition to smack his fingers with. Obama probably figured Australians are too laid back to put on a colour revolution. Big pity.
Welcome home, Saker.
while you were gone, Strelkov claimed responsibility for the war
http://www.themoscowtimes.com/news/article/russias-igor-strelkov-i-am-responsible-for-war-in-eastern-ukraine/511584.html.
The full interview is huge, 5 or 6 pages, very detailed on the battles. Explains a lot of why he’s in exile. Scary level of naive innocence. Just for you to read, Petri turned it up http://zavtra.ru/content/view/kto-tyi-strelok/
It’s a bit off topic but I got a link today to a great video out of China on the Chinese take on US regime change in 12 steps. Not to offend anybody but it reminded me of a reverse AA program when I watched it so if you have an extra 25 minutes to kill check this out… the Chinese see everything USA is trying to do in a very broad way:

For an excellent insider idea of how the Chinese see USA regime change (in 12 steps) check out this video I got today – at 25 mins. its a bit long, but so very worth the time. They don’t miss a thing in this:

Go China! Meanwhile in Poland:
Merkel: Poland and Germany in favour of safety and freedom
“We are aware that only together with Russia can we protect the security of Europe in the long run, and therefore sanctions are not just an end in themselves, but we need to have a dialogue with Russia,” Chancellor Merkel said.
—
Polish-German-Russian alliance is the cornerstone of the peace and prosperity in Europe, and in the World. Nobody can undermine that, neither Jewish, nor Ukrainian, nor German chauvinists. Especially the latter are dangerous with their perfidious propaganda white washing German atrocities during WW2 and spewing anti-Polish venom while at the same time re-writing the history to suite their evil agenda.
Here is a fine example of deconstructing Jewish chauvinistic propaganda full of lies and hypocrisy:
Jedwabne: The Politics of Apology and Contrition,
Defamation: The Price of Poland’s Heroism
A BBC correspondent said Russia was making the situation in Ukraine growing tenser. Mr. Peskov said in response, «We will continue to make it much more tense as far as our national interests are concerned».
Answering the question if the Ukrainian scenario could be repeated in Latvia, Peskov said «I would share their worries». According to him, if someone orchestrated a coup d’état and Brussels would recognize the new power, then «there would be a danger for Latvia».
In his interview Peskov voiced the key demand put forward by Russia –
the West must provide guarantees to Moscow that Ukraine will never become a NATO member.
The guarantees must be binding and unconditional, otherwise the scenario may be repeated – NATO failed to hold to the promise made to Michael Gorbachev, then President of the USSR, not to expand to the East. Today Moscow understands well that Western promises are nothing but empty words and nobody of those who dealt with Gorbachev ever intended to come through.
The West strongly believes that it can still treat Russia as in the days of Gorbachev and Yeltsin! It’s a pity! It’s better to leave these false impressions behind.
kremlin.ru Arkady DZIUBA
Better late than never but this should have been made clear an year ago. Yes tensions would have gone much higher but maybe those puppets in Europe would have thought more rather than going along with the notion that you can bully lesser humans into submission like they have been doing for the last 1000 years. And if defenseless then cleaning them off the face of the planet.
President Putin’s chief spokesman, Dmitry Peskov, has told the BBC that Russia has red lines in Europe that it will not allow to be crossed, and it will intensify its response if its national interests are challenged.
Mr Peskov was speaking in a rare interview in Moscow with the BBC’s World Affairs Editor, John Simpson.
http://www.bbc.com/news/world-europe-30113821
Wonderful. Maybe it will encourage Russia to recognize the elections in Novorossiya rather than simply “respecting” them.
Thank you, Saker, for yet another very illuminating blog post. I wonder if you could comment on another issue that comes to mind here, which is Chinese economic involvement in Ukraine. It has been reported that Chinese investers have bought large tracks of farmland there. What is the status of these investments and how do they influence the Chinese stance?
Prof James Petras is interpreting all the international press demonizing as an ominous prelude to war. He seems to expect possibly some NATO involvement. I don’t like all the urgent German meetings w Putin: Merkel met w him for 4 hours. A day or two later, SteinmeIer. The Germans know what’s coming, want to avoid the risky war. But let’s face it: they want the financial conquest of Ukraine– Russia to follow later. I think Petras’ thesis is likely to be right cuz time is running out for the NWO. http://www.globalresearch.ca/all-out-war-in-ukraine-natos-final-offensive/5415354
Three cheers for China -& Russia and all those that oppose western neo-Nazi support.
A multi-polar world is a more stable and safer one.
@ Anon
China had dreamed of leasing millions of hectares of Ukraine – up to 5% in this story — to grow their own food there. Ukraine doesn’t/didn’t let foreigners buy land (I hope they don’t). It hasn’t gone through as there were a few changes of government.
This is a good article as it details other earlier dealings between the two countries.

=================
Merkel
“.. but we need to have a dialogue with Russia,” Chancellor Merkel said…”
This is a big backdown from her ranting and screaming. a BIG backdown. She is under pressure at home to come around. She just can’t do it right away for fear it makes her look weak.
Alien Tech — excellent handling of BBC interview by Peskov. Now the question is: who is going to blink first? My 2 cents are on the US — and btw, I suspect Merkel is playing a very dangerous double game here. Pushing the US right up to Ukraine’s eastern front line (and failing) will likely see them also fade from German soil over time.
What a misleading headline!
As far as war. Who is NATO going to send for ground troops? the Poles? They have been getting chewed up by NovoRussia. No Americans will go and fight in the Ukraine except mercenary types. No one wants to fight for Emperor Obama who declared himself above the law last night.
THE TIMETABLE
Kiev has repeatedly stated they would wipe out all of Donbass. That is a given.
The deadline for moving “their” people out of Donbass is December 1. This clears the field.
They do not want to obliterate the coal mines, as they desperately need coal, like, yesterday. Nobody will sell to them. They have 3 or 4 week’s worth left.
So they would be hoping for a REALLY fast victory, a few days, to be able to get at the coal stockpiles still there. Then they can mop up the rest a bit slower.
If NATO or any country individually comes to help them, that is casus belli for Russia. NOBODY really wants that. Let’s remember these murderers want to look INNOCENT.
So I think they may try a false flag, a provocation that “entitles” them to “self-defence” even though that will also involve Russia, but then they can scream “innocent victim”.
If they do it the false flag way, they will probably “retaliate” with air strikes. Of their own, Ukie has 2 SU-25 that might manage one trip. Rest is helicopters, also wonky, NAF can probably handle those.
If they get better help, there is at least one S300 in Ukraine but it may not be enough; Russia might need to do something to get those planes out of the air. OTOH this can be done without ever entering Ukie airspace (well, the missiles would, but not the planes). The NATO nature of the planes could not be hidden if they fall into Novorossiya, as they would.
If they do a ground attack, with or without borrowed equipment? they would have to go against the whole front line at once. This would leave their rear exposed to Kharkov. There are only partisans there, no big forces. BUT it is only 70 km from Belgorod. Nice forested area, movements a lot less obvious than on the open steppe of Rostov that everyone is watching. Another 90 down to Debaltseve. But they won’t wait to be sandwiched, they’d have to turn and run.
Only headache is they have huge forces in Mariupol. Those are NOT THERE to defend against a NAF attack. Those are there to ATTACK from the back when they come across the top as well. Someone from the direction of Kherson would have to cut off this lot. Let’s see, who do we have around Kherson? isn’t there’s a Crimea border crossing there?
ONE WAY TO DELAY is for someone to sell them some coal for immediate delivery. Getting coal right now is more urgent than wiping the area. Donbass won’t sell them any. RUSSIA SHOULD. They can’t officially. Surely they can find enough corruption still going on, that one rogue coalmine sells some cheap? cash bribe, credit the actual goods. Some coal there is only $32 a tonne, that sounds a nice number for a bribe to me.
On the heels of Pastor Leung’s Zion tv there, I’d like to share a very important Chinese video with deep connections to Tienanmen 1989. It’s called River Elegy. It was aired in the relatively liberal late eighties. Smells yanky to me.

Given their penchant for numerology I suppose it will be 11/23/2014 lcal time that it will begin.
23 is a prime number, 11/23 adds to 7, so does 2014.
Silly, but numerology seems to mean something to them.
China is also paying US back for instigating and financing the Hongkie kids to protest and occupy major Hong Kong roads for 2 months in an effort to force the collapse of the Hong Kong administration ala Euromaidan.
Thanks for the Chinese 12-step. I guess they’re using it to innoculate their population against it.
I just remembered– Isn’t 11/23 the date of the Chinese Communist Party Meeting? And afterwards China’s retired military are to be consulted, no?
Thank you Alexander Mercouris for this appreciation of the Chinese position. Also for your comments on your Facebook page about Merkel and Germany, as well as your observation that sanctions have NOT been ramped up.
Here’s some more context from the TASS report. The smoke and fire thing refers to the Maidan coup. It’s the understanding finally by China that these things don’t just happen spontaneously as an outbreak of popular expression, they’re driven, by money and long preparation by the US – the fire that causes the smoke. That’s how I read it.
China supports Russia’s stance on settling the crisis in Ukraine, Gui Congyou stressed.
“China reacts with full understanding to the challenges and threats Russia has faced in connection with the Ukrainian issue and supports Moscow’s approach to its settlement. We are not interested in an armed conflict on the Ukrainian territory and wish to see the issue settled by political means. We are against external intervention in Ukraine’s internal affairs through government coups.”
“As for the causes of the Ukrainian crisis, in a telephone conversation with Russian President Vladimir Putin the Chinese leader, Xi Jingping said that ‘there is no smoke without fire’,” Gui added.
“Personally, I believe that some states and blocs stick to the Cold War mentality and are involved in geopolitical games with the aim to infringe on the geopolitical interests of Russia. China is strongly against anyone harming the security of other countries for the purpose of protecting one’s ‘absolute security’,” he noted.
In light of Xi’s smoke and fire epiphany, and China’s re-evaluation of Tiananmen Square, the video posted by silver palomino is worth a look. It puts the pieces together very clearly – clearly indicts NED for most of the support work in Hong Kong. It’s good to see how well this meme can be communicated.
This is not an official video, I think it’s from a Christian, anti-Freemason group. The website is at ZionDaily.com – talk about strange bedfellows – but the video is excellent:
Occupy Central: USA’s 12 Steps to Bring China into WW3 (English subtitles)

Glad that China has recognized the reality .
On the possible UKI attack . I have a few comments !
1) Given the UKI shelling and killing of Novorossians
it is no longer valid to have a united ucraine .
2) If the fighting start , this time , the Novorossian will have to refuse any agreement like the one failing now and go for Kiev and take over the government !

” During the following weeks, it was becoming increasingly clear that my own country is a target of this “activism”, too. The main underlying reason for these anti-Hungarian, anti-Czech, and other assaults is the widespread opposition against the trade war with Russia in these Central European countries. One could argue that in all the countries of the former Austrian-Hungarian monarchy (and perhaps also in Italy, if not Germany), most people and business interests prefer constructive relationships with Russia.”

For the Chinese Crimea (and probably the whole Ukraine) are in the Russian sphere of influence and part of Russian world, in a similar way that tibet, hong kong and taiwan are part of the Chinese world.
The west managed to severe in the past the ties that many former soviet states had with Russia, and China understands this, and prefer to stick with Russia.
In the case of Crimea it was not really an independence referendum, but a go back with the real motherland referendum.

UNITED NATIONS, November 22. /TASS/. The third committee of the UN General Assembly on Friday adopted a resolution urging countries to adopt more efficient measures to struggle against the heroization of Nazism and other forms of racial discrimination, xenophobia and intolerance.

You missed a very important bit right at the beginning: “by Alexander Mercouris”
OK, in this instance I guess Saker agrees pretty much, but you should have said: “Thanks Mr. Mercouris”, because Saker is just relaying his opinion.
Ok? This is not Saker’s voice, it’s someone else’s voice on hos blog.

The perpetual myth of Sino-Russian enmity is one that the US in particular is quite shrill in trying to sell. The obviously wrong the claim is shown to be, the louder and more shrill the claims become.

It is so obvious they are completely cornered. I suppose that is why Mercouris keeps grasping at straws over insignificant tidbits like this.

The Fundamentals about Novorissiya:
Russia is all in. Putin and the 88% behind him understand that Kiev is nazi-redux and the ATO is ethic cleansing.
It is a low intensity proxy war, now ratcheting up technologies. New anti-mortar radar supplied by the US will help against the very effective 122mm mortars of the militia. Russia will have counter measures quickly if they don’t have them already.
If this give the Ukies false sense of security, it should cost them heavily.
Since the war has evolved into direct Russian military command and significant ‘troops on leave’ inside Donbass, the war will be decisively won by Russia if the Ukies launch another offensive.
Should it stay at the levels of violence we have seen for the last month or so, neither a truce nor an offensive, the buildup will continue until the entire Ukie Army will have to be given drugs to fight what they face from Russia.
The war is balanced on how much pain the Ukie nation can take. We see that there are fracture lines within the country. The junta cannot hold out any future for the masses and it sacrifices its army in senseless strategies.
With US trainers and advisers nearby, they will soon learn the horrible lesson that the US does not know how to win nor has any victories on the ground in 70 years unless you count Grenada. It’s greatest victory in the last twenty years is the retaking of Fallujah, Iraq. (Which ISIS now holds.)
Desert Storm, the first Iraq War, is a joke, no real military man would want to claim.
Ukraine will be a harsh lesson in military failure for the US and its stooge regimes.
Not only have the US, EU and junta poked the bear, they climbed into the cage with the bear. That is the ultimate existential threat to the bear, and the most foolish strategy any military could make.
The terrain is Russian, the tactics are Russian, the threat is to Russia, and the enemy is the most hated, vile enemy all Russians despise.
Only the U.S. could dream up such a failure for itself.

China will require tit for tat for their support with Russia in the future being required to help them in the Pacific/Alaska/Arctic flank as they deal in South and East China sea.
The military positioning and lining up is grim ( what is this increase of troops in Afghanistan by Obama?) By spring the world may be in flames. Russia needs to have Lavrov on air somewhere everyday–the man is an effective presence –and to think he was parked in Sri Lanka for years! Yes, it is about regime change in Russia and over the dead body of the Ukraine. they are insane.
Quite sad when only a small minority realizes jut how close to the abyss their white picked fences are now sitting.
The propaganda attack against Putin equating him with Hitler is so extreme that you have to think that the Russians cannot believe their ears and cannot trust the United States anymore under any circumstances.
I cannot believe how we could have gotten ourselves into this situation to protect the looters in the Ukraine that Putin would have rid the Ukraine of, and even had the gall to place in a leadership role one of the worst of the thieves. But that is history. What is certain is that MAD [mutually assured destruction] is not a deterrent today when both sides believe the other will use nuclear weapons once they have the advantage and that the side that gains a decisive advantage will use them. MAD is now over.
So NATO has been warned about Russia’s real red lines. Still, substantial sectors of the Washington/Wall Street elites can’t get enough of war. And they like it hot. [6] No one should ever underestimate the unlimited stupidity of the Return of the Living Neo-con Dead using their favorite pulpit, the editorial page of the Wall Street Journal.

Politically the French refusal is meant to humiliate Russia on the world stage in order to weaken its prestige and support in the world, a refusal compounded by the insulting cat and mouse game being played by the French, first promising to deliver the ships, then hesitating, then promising again, but in the end never delivering. A cynical person could even wonder whether Russia was tricked all along and paid almost 1.2 billion euros in advance in early 2011 for ships it was never intended to get and was lured into wasting three years that could have been spent on developing similar vessels to be built in Russia.
In a bad, cynical mood, I sometimes think that if Russia, US, and China can come to some sort of tacit agreement and then go after Europe in a big way, much wealth could be extracted. Of course, this would be totally unethical, but the let us face it: the principal blame for the Ukrainian mess can be put at Europe’s door: if the EU countries had used some ethics and common sense, this NATO adventure could never have gotten off the ground. I have always felt that Germany and Merkel are using the US and not the other way around. Pity is Putin has been betting heavy on prising Germany out of US grip. But what if theirs is a mutual embrace, with the sole intent of dismantling Russia? Why can’t Russia try to make a deal with the US to switch the flow of wealth extraction out of Europe instead of into it? The above are some wild thoughts, but I do think it is time Russia started holding EU accountable.

Part 1. Ukraine: Secretive Neo-Nazi Military Organization Involved in Euromaidan Sniper Shootings
By F. William Engdahl

yanukovich-ousted-president-russia
Yanoukovitch, ousted president of Ukraine
This article –which recounts the events of the November Euromaidan 2013 Sniper Shootings was first published in March 2014
The events in Ukraine since November 2013 are so astonishing as almost to defy belief. An legitimately-elected (said by all international monitors) Ukrainian President, Viktor Yanukovich, has been driven from office, forced to flee as a war criminal after more than three months of violent protest and terrorist killings by so-called opposition.
His “crime” according to protest leaders was that he rejected an EU offer of a vaguely-defined associate EU membership that offered little to Ukraine in favor of a concrete deal with Russia that gave immediate €15 billion debt relief and a huge reduction in Russian gas import prices. Washington at that point went into high gear and the result today is catastrophe.
A secretive neo-nazi military organization reported linked to NATO played a decisive role in targeted sniper attacks and violence that led to the collapse of the elected government.
But the West is not finished with destroying Ukraine. Now comes the IMF with severe conditionalities as prerequisite to any Western financial help.
After the famous leaked phone call of US Assistant Secretary of State Victoria Nuland (photo, left) with the US Ambassador in Kiev, where she discussed the details of who she wanted in a new coalition government in Kiev, and where she rejected the EU solutions with her “Fuck the EU” comment,[1] the EU went it alone. Germany’s Foreign Minister, Frank-Walter Steinmeier proposed that he and his French counterpart, Laurent Fabius, fly to Kiev and try to reach a resolution of the violence before escalation. Polish Foreign Minister, Radoslaw Sikorski was asked to join. The talks in Kiev included the EU delegation, Yanukovich, the three opposition leaders and a Russian representative. The USA was not invited.[2]

I noted that even on a posting by Russia Today there was an explanation of the Ukrainian opposition to the anti-fascism resolution “as it was drafted”,—Ukraine wants this resolution to also mention opposition to stalinism or neo-stalinism, and then it would be acceptable and Ukraine would support a resolution condemning both movements. What is wrong with that?—Russia and the Russians need to be destalinized as much as the current Ukrainian regime may need to be denazified.—We can go back to the pronouncements on the record by Lord Jesus Himself regarding basic forms of government contrasting government according to the kingdom of heaven as leaders being servants of their followers as versus leaders lording it over their followers. See Matthew 23:11-12; Mark 9:34, 10:42-44; Luke 22:25-26. Both fascism and stalinism rely on leadership as leaders lording it over followers by rage and terror, and murder.
So why not indeed condemn them both? In the same resolution?
It seems to me that right now Russia is in danger of drifting into the darkness of neo-stalinism with a government much like that
of North Korea.
Part 2 (William Engdahl)
The EU intervention without Washington was extraordinary and reveals the deeping division between the two in recent months. In effect it was the EU saying to the US State Department, “F*** the US,” we will end this ourselves.
After hard talks, all major parties including the majority of protesters, agreed to new presidential elections in December, return to the 2004 Constitution and release of Julia Tymoshenko from prison. The compromise appeared to end the months long chaos and give a way out for all major players.
The diplomatic compromise lasted less than twelve hours. Then all hell broke loose.
Snipers began shooting into the crowd on February 22 in Maidan or Independence Square. Panic ensued and riot police retreated in panic according to eyewitnesses. The opposition leader Vitali Klitschko withdrew from the deal, no reason given. Yanukovich fled Kiev.[3]
The question unanswered until now is who deployed the snipers? According to veteran US intelligence sources, the snipers came from an ultra-right-wing military organization known as Ukrainian National Assembly – Ukrainian People’s Self-Defense (UNA-UNSO).
IMAGE: Members of UNA-UNSO marching in Lviv.
Strange Ukraine ‘Nationalists’
The leader of UNA-UNSO, Andriy Shkil, ten years ago became an adviser to Julia Tymoshenko. UNA-UNSO, during the US-instigated 2003-2004 “Orange Revolution”, backed pro-NATO candidate Viktor Yushchenko against his pro-Russian opponent, Yanukovich. UNA-UNSO members provided security for the supporters of Yushchenko and Julia Tymoshenko on Independence Square in Kiev in 2003-4.[4]
UNA-UNSO is also reported to have close ties to the German National Democratic Party (NDP). [5]
Ever since the dissolution of the Soviet Union in 1991 the crack-para-military UNA-UNSO members have been behind every revolt against Russian influence. The one connecting thread in their violent campaigns is always anti-Russia. The organization, according to veteran US intelligence sources, is part of a secret NATO “GLADIO” organization, and not a Ukraine nationalist group as portrayed in western media. [6]
According to these sources, UNA-UNSO have been involved (confirmed officially) in the Lithuanian events in the Winter of 1991, the Soviet Coup d’etat in Summer 1991, the war for the Pridnister Republic 1992, the anti-Moscow Abkhazia War 1993, the Chechen War, the US-organized Kosovo Campaign Against the Serbs, and the August 8 2008 war in Georgia. According to these reports, UNA-UNSO para-military have been involved in every NATO dirty war in the post-cold war period, always fighting on behalf of NATO. “These people are the dangerous mercenaries used all over the world to fight NATO’s dirty war, and to frame Russia because this group pretends to be Russian special forces. THESE ARE THE BAD GUYS, forget about the window dressing nationalists, these are the men behind the sniper rifles,” these sources insist. [7]
If true that UNA-UNSO is not “Ukrainian” opposition, but rather a highly secret NATO force using Ukraine as base, it would suggest that the EU peace compromise with the moderates was likely sabotaged by the one major player excluded from the Kiev 21 February diplomatic talks—Victoria Nuland’s State Department.[8] Both Nuland and right-wing Republican US Senator John McCain have had contact with the leader of the Ukrainian opposition Svoboda Party, whose leader is openly anti-semitic and defends the deeds of a World War II Ukrainian SS-Galicia Division head.[9] The party was registered in 1995, initially calling itself the “Social National Party of Ukraine” and using a swastika style logo. Svoboda is the electoral front for neo-nazi organizations in Ukraine such as UNA-UNSO.[10]

Part 3 (William Engdahl)
One further indication that Nuland’s hand is shaping latest Ukraine events is the fact that the new Ukrainian Parliament is expected to nominate Nuland’s choice, Arseny Yatsenyuk, from Tymoshenko’s party, to be interim head of the new Cabinet.
Whatever the final truth, clear is that Washington has prepared a new economic rape of Ukraine using its control over the International Monetary Fund (IMF).
IMF plunder of Ukraine Crown Jewels
Now that the “opposition” has driven a duly-elected president into exile somewhere unknown, and dissolved the national riot police, Berkut, Washington has demanded that Ukraine submit to onerous IMF conditionalities.
In negotiations last October, the IMF demanded that Ukraine double prices for gas and electricity to industry and homes, that they lift a ban on private sale of Ukraine’s rich agriculture lands, make a major overhaul of their economic holdings, devalue the currency, slash state funds for school children and the elderly to “balance the budget.” In return Ukraine would get a paltry $4 billion.
Before the ouster of the Moscow-leaning Yanukovich government last week, Moscow was prepared to buy some $15 billion of Ukraine debt and to slash its gas prices by fully one-third. Now, understandably, Russia is unlikely to give that support. The economic cooperation between Ukraine and Moscow was something Washington was determined to sabotage at all costs.
This drama is far from over. The stakes involve the very future of Russia, the EU-Russian relations, and the global power of Washington, or at least that faction in Washington that sees further wars as the prime instrument of policy.

I read the quoted Chinese text to say that Crimea is a special case — period. The Donbas is not special. Russia therefore does not have free hand and US/NATO knows it. Given this reading, time is on their side until. They continue to rape, pillage, kill, and ultimately clear out the 60% of the Donbas they control. In the meantime, they terrorize and starve the NAF territory. I personally suspect that they might well not attack but let time work in their favor. They are now dug in and can inflict a lot of casualties on any NAF counterattack.
Western sanctions are aimed at regime change in Russia – Lavrov
http://rt.com/news/207927-russia-europe-business-usual/
Excerpts
Lavrov said that the tensions between Russia and the West had been brewing for years before the Ukrainian crisis, adding that now the Europeans had decided to go for all-or-nothing and play chicken with Russia. But at least the positions have been made clear, Lavrov said.
…
“The EU is our largest partner,” Lavrov said. “Nobody is going to shoot himself in the foot and reject cooperation with Europe, but everyone understands that it won’t be business as usual anymore.
“But we don’t need the kind of business we had. [That] was like ‘Russia must do this and must do that,’ and we want to cooperate as equals,” he added.
…
Ideology blinds Europeans to some problems, which Russia believes need to be solved, Lavrov said. For example, EU officials are reluctant to speak about the persecution of Christians by Muslim militants in Iraq and Syria or elsewhere, because they fear that this would be perceived a is politically incorrect. Meanwhile there is a growing Christianophobia in the world, he said
…
“It’s not about anti-Americanism or forming some sort of anti-American coalition. It’s about the natural desire of an increasing number of nations to ensure their vital interests and doing it in a way they see right, not the way they are being told by a foreign party,” he said.
“It seems to me that right now Russia is in danger of drifting into the darkness of neo-stalinism with a government much like that
of North Korea.”
Oh, yes, I’m told this constantly by those who, when it comes to everything else, lie without stint. But they’re telling the truth about Stalin and NKorea? Give your head a shake, sparky.

Is there any way Russia can put France on an advance-payment plan for their gas? They obviously can’t be trusted to fulfill their contracts. Maybe add to the gas payments something towards repaying the Mistral money.
How about letting the French farmers know that Russia won’t be buying any farm produce till the Mistral plus penalties is paid?
